Viswanathan Anand of India lost in the final round to Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine at the World Blitz Chess Championship in Moscow, Russia about two weeks ago. Anand had readched the position above and was in a clearly winning position with two pawns up; all he had to do was push White's h-pawn to the 7th square to firmly tie down Black's pieces to cement the win. Instead, Vishy moved his knight and eventually blundered into a fork which would cost him a rook, the game and the World Blitz title by 1 point. As Susan Polgar put it on her blog, "you can not create a better ending" although I bet Anand would disagree!

Anand Loses World Blitz Chess Championship in Last Round
