There are two interesting developments in presidential politics recently. The California legislature has passed legislation to have California join the "national popular vote" movement. This is a compact which would go into effect when states which represent 270 electoral votes (California, Texas, New York, Florida, llinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, New Jersey and North Carolina) have all ratified legislation to award their electoral votes to the winner of the nationwide popular vote. MadProfessah thinks this is a great idea, which would have prevented the nightmare result of the 2000 Presidential election.
However, while this legislation would fix the 2008 election and beyond there are still some questions being asked about the result of the 2004 election. The New York Times reported that the state of Ohio will delay its plan to destroy the 2004 presidential ballots. As you may recall, it was Bush winning by 118,000 votes out of 5.6 million cast which determined the outcome of his race for re-election.
