Openly Gay Mayor of Portland, Oregon Elected

Little noticed by the mainstream media in the hullabaloo around the presidential primary election in Oregon yesterday was the election of Sam Adams, a 44-year-old openly gay man, as the next mayor of Portland, OR.
Adams avoided a November run-off by winning 58% of the vote in a crowded 11-person field.

By winning his election yesterday, when he is sworn in Sam Adams will become the first openly gay mayor of a Top 40 American city.
