Avatar (see MadProfessah review) has become the fastest movie to hit the $500 million mark in North American box-office history, achieving that feat exactly one month (32 days) after its December 18 release, on January 18.
This was one day after the Golden Globes shook up the Oscar race by awarding the film Best Picture (Drama) and James Cameron Best Director, shutting out the critical darling (and my second favorite movie of the year), The Hurt Locker (see MadProfessah review) and it's director (Cameron's ex-wife) Kathryn Bigelow.
Avatar's total is currently at $505 million and should surpass The Dark Knight as the #2 all-time domestic box-office champ (behind Titanic at $600m) by the end of the weekend.
