John A. Pérez officially made history on Thursday when he was elected (the first openly gay man to be) Speaker of the California Assembly, by a vote of 48-26.Congratulations, John! Pérez is expected to take office sometime in March, when Speaker Karen Bass transitions out of that role and ramping up for the 2010 elections begins.
