Clive Rose/Getty Images
5-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williamslost in the first round of the 2012 Wimbledon championships for the first time since her debut at the tournament in 1997 to Russian Elena Vesnina in straight sets 6-1 6-3. The 32-year-old American was lethargic and listless in the match, with her timing off. She lost her serve 3 times in the first set (starting the match with 5 consecutive missed serves) and had a service percentage of 38% and never really looked competitive. She walked off the court looking tired and disconsolate.
Venus is still in the tournament, playing doubles with her sister Serena Williams.
