2013 FRENCH OPEN: Isner Saves 12MP in 5-set loss to Haas

John Isner smiles after he saves his 12th match point against Haas
American Jamie Hampton upset 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova
Jelena Jankovic upset 2011 US Open Champion Sam Stosur
John Isner wrote his name in the tennis history books again, this time for another display of mental fortitude: saving a record dozen match points against Tommy Haas, even though he eventually lost 7-5, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-7(10), 10-8. Isner was attempting to make it two matches in a row where he was coming back from 2-sets down to win, having done so against fellow American Ryan Harrison 8-6 in the 5th. Isner was able to even the match and although he was unable to win it, he again demonstrated his incredible mental strength and desire not to lose.

There were multiple other upsets on the day that I was travelling from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. 2011 Wimbledon Champion and #7 seed Petra Kvitova was taken out 6-1 7-6(7) by American youngster Jamie Hampton and 2011 US Open champion and #9 seed Samantha Stosur lost to veteran Jelena Jankovic 3-6 6-3 6-4. Bethanie Mattek-Sands followedup her astonishing upset of 2011 French Open champion Li Na and #6 seed by reaching the 4th round.
