TENNIS TUESDAY: Frances Tiafoe Goes Pro, Kerber Beats Keys; Mirza Becomes Doubles #1
Frances Tiafoe Turns Pro
17-year-old African-American phenomenon Frances Tiafoe announced last week that he is turning pro and signed with Jay-Z's sports management agency. Tiafoe has been making headlines as the potential future of American's men's tennis for his outstanding junior results. He lost his ATP tour debut in Washington, D.C. last summer and is currently ranked #520 in the world.
Madison Keys and Angelique Kerber Compete In A Second Classic Final Last summer Madison Keys won her first WTA title by outlasting Angelique Kerber on grass at Eastbourne. This weekend they had a reprise of that showdown on clay in the final of the Family Circle Cup but this time Kerber came back from down 1-4 in the final set to win 6-2 4-6 7-5.
Sania Mirza Becomes First Indian Woman To Be Ranked #1 (In Doubles) Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis are on a roll, having won both the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments. These results combined with the surprising decision by the former World #1 doubles team of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci to stop playing together is that Mirza is now the #1 ranked doubles player in the world.
