2015 FRENCH OPEN: Djokovic Ends Nadal's Streak With Dominating Win

As I predicted, Novak Djokovic extended his winning streak to 27 matches in a row by defeating the 9-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Roland Garros tournament. Djokovic raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set but did not panic when Nadal stormed back and leveled things at 4-all, sneaking away with the set 7-5 and then went on to wi the next two sets by ever increasing margins 6-3 and then 6-1. Djokovic's win means he has brought his head-to-head record against Nadal to 21 wins to 23 losses.

It was the first time Nadal had ever been down 2-0 in a 5-set match despite playing 95 of them and sporting a 94-1 record. Obviously it is also the first time that he has lost a 5-set match on clay in straight sets. Now his record is 94-2. He is 70-2 lifetime at Roland Garros, with his only other loss coming in the fourth round of the 2009 French Open to Robin Soderling.

Djokovic is now two matches away from completing the career Grand Slam, which would also be his 9th major title. In the biggest tournaments on the tour, Djokovic has won every single one he has played in 2015 (4 Masters Series 1000 tournaments and the 2015 Australian Open).

  1. Did not get to see any of today's tennis, but yesterday, Stan looked devastating.
    Nice quartet remaining.
Glad to see Serena show up early today, rather than waiting for sets 2&3.
    Also Safarova looking quite strong.
