2017 WIMBLEDON: Men's and Women's Draw Analysis


The draw for the 2017 Wimbledon championships is out, and the tournament starts tomorrow and is scheduled to end on Sunday July 16th. Last year's champions were Serena Williams and Andy Murray, respectively.

On the men's draw, the projected quarterfinals are:
  • Andy Murray (1) versus Stan Wawrinka (5) 
  • Rafael Nadal (4) versus  Marin Cilic (7)
  • Roger Federer (3) versus Milos Raonic (6)
  • Novak Djokovic  (2) versus Dominic Thiem (8)
On the women's side the projected quarterfinals are:
  • Angelique Kerber (1) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova (7)
  • Karolina Pliskova (3) vs. Caroline Wozniacki (5)
  • Elina Svitolina (4) vs. Dominika Cibulkova (8)
  • Simona Halep (2) vs. Johanna Konta (6)
On both sides of the draw the world #1 ranking is up for grabs depending on the result of the third major of the year. On the women's side Halep, Pliskova, Kerber and Svitolina all have a chance to reach #1 on the WTA tour for the first time. On the men's side, Wawrinka, Nadal, Djokovic can all replace Murray at the top of the ATP Tour rankings.

There are some exciting first round matches to watch:
  • Sabine Lisicki versus Ana Konjuh (27)
  • Johanna Konta (6) versus Su-Wei Hsieh (reprise of 2017 Roland Garros match won by Hsieh)
  • Victoria Azarenka versus CiCi Bellis
  • Aggie Radwanska versus Jelena Jankovic
  • Alison Riske versus Sloane Stephens
  • Nick Kyrgios (20) versus Pierre-Hughes Herbert
  • Fernando Verdasco (31) versus Kevin Anderson
  • Philip Kohlschreiber versus Marin Cilic (7)
  • Taylor Fritz versus John Isner (23)
  • Borna Coric versus Ryan Harrison
