AUS OPEN 2011: Day 3-5 Highlights

Venus Williams was forced to retire due to injury for the first time in over 250 grand slam matches during the second game of her 3rd round match with Andrea Petkovic of Germany. Venus had injured herself in her previous round match against Sandra Zahlavova during the 1st set tiebreaker, which she lost but was able to win the match 6-7(6) 6-0 6-4.

Svetlana Kuznetsova was able to defeat  2010 Australian Open finalist Justine Henin for the first(!) time in a grand slam match 6-4 7-6(8), improving her lifetime head-to-head record to 3 wins and 16 losses.

The third round is not yet complete, but so far Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Francesca Schiavone, Victoria Azarenka and Li Na are all through to the fourth round.

On the men's side, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych, Fernando Verdasco (who face each other next), Andy Roddick are all in the fourth round.

Juan Martin del Potro lost to Marcos Baghdatis (2nd round) and Gael Monfils lost to Stanislaw Wawrinka (3rd round).

Rafael Nadal, Robin Soderling and Andy Murray still need to complete their 3rd round matches.
