Djokovic Retires Against Murray To Lose 2nd 2011 Match

Not even Novak Djokovic's amazing body could stand up to the punishment of winning 6 consecutive Masters series finals in a row. In his 59th match of the year, Djokovic looked sluggish and pained and finally retired after 13 games, losing 6-4 3-0 to his contemporary Andy Murray, who won his 7th career Masters series title (the most by any active player who has not won a major title).

For Djokovic, it was only his second loss of the year, so his record is now 57-2. He is chasing John McEnroes's 82-3 record in 1984 when the American won 13 titles, including the 1984 US Open and 1984 Wimbledon. More recently Roger Federer compiled a 81-4 record in 2005, winning 11 titles (including the 2005 Wimbledon and 2005 U.S. Open).
