2016 US OPEN: Kerber Beats Pliskova To Win 2nd Major

As I predictedthe new women's World #1 tennis player Angie Kerber won her 2nd major title (of 2016!) by defeating Karolina Pliskova in a high-quality women's final at the 2016 US Open 6-3 4-6 6-4.  Kerber has reached 3 major finals in 2016, winning two of them and with a silver medal at the Rio Oympics she cements her place at the top of women's tennis.

Pliskova started surprisingly nervously and lost serve in her opening game. Kerber was able to grab hold of this lead and despite facing multiple breakpoints and the less powerful serve, she was never broken in the first set and broke again the final game to win the first set 6-3. The second set was a different affair when Pliskova changed tactics and started coming to net repeatedly, quite successfully and served better. Pliskva never faced a breakpoint in the second set and this freed up her to go after Kerber's weakness, her second serve and eventually she broke her and served out the set 6-4. In the third set, Pliskova got up an early break in the third set and held serve to go up 3-1. Things looked bad for eh new #1 but she remained positive and eventually she was able to break back in the 6t game to eve ]n the score at 3-a;; and hold serve to go up 4-3. Pliskova struggled but eventually she held serve. At this point the match was nearly 2 hors long and Pliskova looked exhausted. Kerber held serve at 4-all to go up 5-4 and then broke Pliskova at 0-40 (winning 8 consecutive points) to win he third set and the match.
