Americans Serena Williams teamed with Mardy Fish to beat the Serbian team of Novak Djokovic and Jelana Jankovic 7-6, 6-2 to win the 2008 Hopman Cup for the United States for the 5th time in Perth, Australia. Serena defeated Australian Alica Molik 6-2, 7-6(7) and Czech Lucie Safarova 6-0, 2-6, 7-5 in singles and won two mixed doubles matches (over Djokovic/Jankovic and Molik/Luczak). She didn;t need to play singles against World #3 because the Serbian star defaulted her singles match due to a leg injury in order to save her strength for the mixed doubles match and the 2008 Australian Open which starts January 14th in Melbourne.Friday, January 04, 2008
