The state of Minnesota is widely expected to become the next state to enact marriage equality. The Minnesota House of Representatives approved a marriage equality bill by a vote of 75-59 on Thursday. As of 1pm EST the Minnesota State Senate will begin debate on the marriage equality bill, where it is expected to pass. The State Senate has 67 members, 39 of which are Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) members and 28 of which are Republican. The bill needs 34 votes to pass.
The Minnesota Star-Tribune reports that the bill is expected to pass and after Gov. Mark Dayton signs it into law, will go into effect on August 1, 2013.
