Democratic Minority Leader of the Senate Harry Reid announced he will be voting against the nomination of John Roberts to be Chief Justice of the United States. The pre-eminent gay legal rights Lambda Legal has also released a statement of opposition. These are not surprises. I'm interested in the parlor game of predicting how many no votes Roberts will get.
The execrable Clarence Thomas holds the record (48) for votes cast in opposition to a nomination which passed the Senate, which had a clear majority of Democrats at the time.
I think Roberts will get thirty-one votes in opposition to his nomination.
