On Tuesday in Cincinatti, OH 7-time Grand Slam champion
Serena Williams easily beat 2004 French Open champion
Anastasia Myskina 6-2, 6-2 in her first match on the
WTA Tour in over 6 months! This is quite an impressive result after such an extended time off (she hadn't played a match since January). In addition, she served a 127-mph serve during the match, which would have tied her sister
Venus Williams 8-year-old
tour record if
Brenda Shultz-McCarthy hadn't
served a 130-mph serve on saturday while losing a qualifying match for the Tier III
Western & Southern Financial Open Serena is playing in! 35-year old Shultz-Mcarthy will now re-gain the fastest women's serve record she had lost from an 18-year old Venus in 1998.
I
previously noted Serena's trash talk before her return to the tour last week but it looks like she is backing it up. Although she is current ranked 139, she will clearly be back in the Top 10 by the end of the year. The
US Open Series just got a lotmore interesting!
