Andy Murray followed up his 3-set revenge win over Roger Federer in the semifinals to defeat Gilles Simon 6-4 7-6(6) in the final to win his second ATP Masters Series shield of the year, this time in Madrid. Simon had defeated Rafael Nadal in a 3 1/2 hour, 3-set 3-6 7-5 7-6(6) thriller in the semifinal, who clinched the year-end World #1 ranking.
