Support for marriage equality in the United States is clearly now (and has been for quite awhile) a majority position, and polling data from the respected CBS/New York Times poll demonstrates the rapid change in popular opinion on this question in less than a year.
In July 2012, support for marriage equality outpolled opposition (46% to 44%) for the first time in the CBS/NYT poll, and by election day a majority of Americans (51%) supported making it legal for same-sex couples to marry.
Now comes word that the latest poll from February 2013 shows that opposition to marriage equality has fallen below 40% and majority support is outside of the margin of error of 3 percentage points.
