It was expected that some Democrats would vote no and that Republican votes were needed. The LGBT community got ZERO votes from Republicans and 8 defections from the bare majority of 32 Democrats in the 62 member body: Stachowski, Onorato, Monserrate, Kruger, Huntley, Diaz, Aubertine and Addabbo.

I trust that Empire State Pride Agenda knows what to do in the State Legislative races in 2010, probably in the Democratic Primaries.

UPDATE 17:10 PM 12/02/2009:

SIX of the EIGHT Democratic State Senators who voted NO are from New York City:

Joseph Addabbo, Jr, 12th District (Queens), First elected 2008

Darrell Aubertine, 48th District (North Country/Adirondacks), First elected 2008

Ruben Diaz, 32nd District (Bronx), Predominantly Latino, First elected 2002

Shirley Huntley, 10th District (Queens), Predominantly Black, First elected 2006

Carl Kruger, 27th District (Brooklyn), First elected 1994

Hiram Montserrate, 13th District (Queens), Big gay, Latino, and South Asian population, First elected 2008

George Onorato, 12th District (Queens), Big gay population, First elected 1983

William Stachowski, 58th District (Lake View/North of Albany), First elected 1981

Dayum, New Yawkers! Y'all really gonna take that? REPRESENT!
