Black Lesbian Mayor elected in Cambridge, MA
Pam Spaulding and Joe.My.God are taking note of the news that the major United States city of Cambridge, Massachusetts has for the first time elected a Black lesbian mayor; her name is Denise Simmons. Previously, Cambridge had an openly gay, Black mayor named Ken Reeves. The mayoral position is selected by a majority vote from the members of the city council, as in West Hollywood, California which currently has an openly gay (and HIV-positive), Latino mayor: John Duran.
