Proposition 71 Upheld By California State Supreme Court
The California State Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of an Appellate Court ruling that declared that Proposition 71 passed by voters 59%-41% in November 2004 is constitutional. The action by Justice Joyce L. Kennard in the case of California Family Bioethics Council v. California Institute for Regenerative Medicine means that $3 billion in bond money will immediately become available towards state-sponsored research in embryonic stem cells.
