The landmark film Tongues Untied by openly gay, Black artist Marlon Riggs is finally being released on DVD this Tuesday. My friend Phill Wilson, Founder and Executive Director of the Black AIDS Institute is features on some of the DVD extras. Tongues Untied is an amazing 59-minute documentary about the lives of Black, gay men in America told by openly gay, Black men (especially the poet Essex Hemphill) and directed by the Emmy-winning director of Ethnic Notions.

One of the defining moments of my coming out process was the viewing of that documentary on PBS. Somewhere I have my videotape copy of it. Remember the furor the Right Wing made over government funding of that program?
