Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Venus Williams all won the first round matches relatively easily, with only the World #1 dropping a set, the first, but closing out the match with a bagel.The big news of the early rounds so far was the departure of 2008 Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova in the first round. Sharapova lost to he rbest friend on the tour, Maria Kirilenko in a tough 3-set match.
