World #1 Roger Federer lost to Nikolay Davydenko for only the second time in 14 matches in the semifinals of the Qatar Open 6-4 6-4, spoiling a potentially mouth-watering showdown with World #2 Rafael Nadal in the final of the first ATP tournament of the year.
Interestingly, Davydenko has a much better career record against Nadal (4 wins 4 losses), but the Spaniard is looking to begin the 2010 season on a high note with a defense of his sole hard court Grand Slam title in Melbourne at the end of the month.
